About this worksheet

This free Year 4 reading and writing large numbers worksheet is written for the Western Australian curriculum and mapped to SCSA content description WA4MNAPV1. It targets one skill so students build real fluency rather than skimming across several ideas at once: reading, writing, ordering, partitioning and rounding whole numbers to at least 100,000.

The worksheet opens with a Key idea box that walks through place value grouping and the rounding rule in worked examples, before students move into four levelled sections. Fluency (16 marks) practises the skill directly: reading and writing numerals and words, identifying digit values, and rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000 and 10,000. Core (21 marks) applies the same skill to short worded problems set in everyday contexts. Reasoning (9 marks) asks students to explain, justify or spot an error, building the mathematical communication skills WA classrooms expect. Challenge (7 marks) is multi-step and problem-solving, for students who finish early or want extension.

Every question includes working space, and Core and Challenge questions carry a separate answer line, so the sheet works equally well as independent practice, homework, or a quick in-class check. A full answer key with worked solutions is available as a free download alongside the worksheet.

This resource was written by EduLift tutors with experience teaching the WA curriculum, and sits in the Year 4 Number and algebra (Understanding number) sequence on our free resources page.
