A free Year 4 maths worksheet on converting between fractions and decimals, with 29 questions across four skill levels.
What's covered
- Converting fractions with denominators 10 and 100 to decimals
- Converting familiar fractions (halves and quarters) to decimals
- Converting decimals back into fraction form
About this worksheet
Converting between fractions and decimals is an important Year 4 number skill that connects two different ways of representing the same value. This worksheet gives students practice converting tenths, hundredths and familiar fractions like halves and quarters into decimals, and back again.
The worksheet follows EduLift’s four-part structure, with 29 questions worth 53 marks in total. The Fluency section (16 marks) has students convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions, covering tenths, hundredths, halves and quarters. The Core section (21 marks) applies this skill to real-world contexts such as pizza slices, ribbon lengths, jug capacities and fundraising totals, including two-part questions that use simplified fraction forms. The Reasoning section (9 marks) asks students to explain the conversion method, correct a common student error, and evaluate a claim about converting any fraction to a decimal. The Challenge section (7 marks) extends students with missing-fraction problems and a simplifying puzzle.
Every question and answer on this worksheet has been checked for accuracy, and the worksheet has been reviewed for clear layout and age-appropriate language before publishing.
This worksheet is aligned to the WA SCSA Mathematics curriculum for Year 4, under the Number and Algebra strand (code WA4MNADE1), and is free to download and use for classroom or home practice.
Common errors we see in tutoring
- Placing a decimal point in front of the numerator without converting the value
- Forgetting that 1/2 and 1/4 need a different conversion method than tenths and hundredths
- Writing the wrong number of decimal places for hundredths
- Confusing the numerator and denominator when converting a decimal to a fraction
