- Why Years 1–3 matter
The years that set the foundation.
Years 1 to 3 are where children move from emerging readers and counters to confident, independent learners. Phonics and decoding become reading for meaning. Counting becomes place value, addition and the beginnings of fractions. The habits, confidence and curiosity built in these years carry through every year of schooling that follows.
This page focuses on English and Mathematics specifically. Science and other learning areas for primary students are introduced through our broader Primary Tutoring program.
Who this program suits
- Children building early reading, phonics and number fluency
- Children who are managing but would benefit from steady, one-on-one practice
- Children who’ve fallen behind on a specific skill, such as decoding or place value
- Families wanting an SCSA-aligned check-in alongside school

- Why EduLift for Years 1–3
Tutoring that builds real foundations.
The early years aren’t about getting through worksheets — they’re about building genuine confidence with reading and number. EduLift was built around one idea: tutoring should make school easier to follow, not add a second, disconnected program on top of an already full week. Everything below is in service of that.
Small groups, maximum 6 — or one-to-one
Young children need a tutor who can see exactly where they’re stuck, whether that’s a tricky sound blend or a place-value mix-up. We cap every session at six, and most Years 1–3 students sit one-to-one or in pairs.
SCSA-aligned, by year level
Content is built directly from the current WA SCSA scope and sequence for each year level, then checked against your child’s own class program in the first session, so sessions reinforce what’s happening at school.
Tutors experienced with early learners
Teaching phonics to a six-year-old and teaching fractions to an eight-year-old call for different approaches. Your child works with a tutor experienced in early literacy and numeracy, not a generalist.
You'll always know where they stand
No vague “doing well” updates. A diagnostic at the start gives a real baseline, and plain-English progress updates show exactly what’s improved, what’s still shaky, and what we’re doing about it.
- What's included
Everything beyond the weekly session.
Diagnostic assessment
A baseline check at the start of term so we know exactly where to begin.
Progress reports
Plain-English updates each term on strengths, gaps and what's next.

- Common questions
Year 1-3 program FAQs.
Q.
Can my child do English and Mathematics together, or only one?
Either works. Many families start with one subject and add the second once they see how sessions run. Each subject is tutored separately so the focus stays sharp.
Q.
How do you handle the different pace of development at this age?
The diagnostic assessment at the start identifies your child's actual stage, not just their year level. We can move faster through familiar material or spend longer consolidating a skill like decoding or place value.
Q.
Will this follow what my child's actual school is teaching?
We map each year level to a typical WA scope and sequence, then adjust in the first session against your child's actual class program.
Q.
Is this the same as your Primary Tutoring program?
Years 1–3 English and Maths sits within our broader Primary Tutoring program (Years 1–6). This page goes into the Years 1–3 detail; visit Primary Tutoring for Years 4–6 and other subjects.
